Finally, Harry Reid is moving in the right direction. I know this isn't the most reliable source for information but I'm hearing this same thing from several contacts.
Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent and a close friend of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, still caucuses with Democrats, which allows them to control the Senate with a 51-49 majority . A spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., indicated Thursday that Lieberman may no longer be welcome.

"Lieberman went too far when he distorted Sen. Obama's record," said Reid spokesman Jim Manley. "From Reid's perspective, (Lieberman) has every right to give a partisan speech to whomever he wants. But he doesn't have the right to distort Sen. Obama's record like that. Sen. Reid was very disappointed in Lieberman's speech."

Added Manley: "The Democratic caucus will likely revisit Lieberman's situation after the November elections."

Asked if Reid was putting Lieberman on notice, Manley replied: "Without overplaying it, the answer is, yes."

Make sure you're disapproval of Lieberman is counted.

CT homework to do: Change succession rules on senators (0.00 / 0)
This topic came up last session in the CT General Assembly, but I think it would be highly appropriate to change the succession rules for senator.  Currently, if a senator dies or leaves office before the term is up, the interim appointment until the next election is made by the Governor.  That interim appointment gives a person a leg up in being voted into office in the next election.

Changing the statutes to allow for a legislative appointment of the successor is something we should consider!

Harry Reid should retire (0.00 / 0)
as majority leader after this election.

As far as I'm concerned his lack of strong support for Chip Carter( Ensign was a sitting duck but Reid made sure he was reelected) in his home state and his lack of strong support for Ned Lamont created the 50/50 split in the Senate.

Obama will win in spite of Harry Reid leadership not in any way because of it.

Harry knows the winds are changing.

Not here to defend Reid (0.00 / 0)
But, I hear he's forcing a vote on Equal Pay for Equal Work in the Senate this September to show McSame up.

The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. --Martin Luther King, Jr.

Harry Reid (0.00 / 1)
 Keith...Reid  may go anyway...

In any regard...the Lamont campaign suffered  from terrible campaign management...and  a bad candidate....other then the war issue, LaMont was  a very unexciting moderate candidate who looked  very unprepared during the debates.

Lamont.. (0.00 / 0)
... kicked Lieberman out of the Democratic Party and led the way to enormous Democratic victories throughout the country as Dem candidates embraced core progressive positions, including ending the Iraq War.

When you look at the close victories in the Senate, you realize that Harry Reid wouldn't even be majority leader if it weren't for Lamont, Joe Courtney wouldn't be in Congress if it weren't for Lamont -- and the voter registration drives and energy his campaign created.

"Bad candidate" ... No. Novice candidate with little support from the Democratic bigwigs, yes.

Considering no other Democrat wanted to challenge Lieberman, whom would you wanted to have run in 2006? (0.00 / 0)
I agree with CaptCT.  Lamont was a "novice" candidate and he ran because no one else would run against Lieberman and he could self-finance.

In March 2006 when Lamont formally announced his candidacy, he was down by 59 points to Lieberman.  Lamont ended up winning the Dem primary by 4 points.  Not bad for a "novice" candidate.

Yes, the general election campaign was not run as well as the primary campaign.  Not sure of what all the problems were as I was not part of the inner workings of the campaign, but remember Lieberman LIED to the people of CT about his position on Iraq and our CT media refused to challenge him on it.

Lamont was fine... (0.00 / 0)

We watched Ned go from novice to a good campaigner very quickly. Lieberman became the de-facto Republican candidate and won 70% of the GOP vote. Add around 30% of Democrats who had a sorely misplaced and undeserved sense of loyalty for Joe and we lost by 10 points.

But let justice roll down like waters...Amos 5:24a

True (0.00 / 0)
When the Republican party scorned and abandoned their properly nominated candidate (Alan Schlesinger) they turned all their national resources toward electing the OTHER Republican in the race.  Joe Lieberman.

Sadly, too many people didn't see it at the time.

His named is spelled "Lamont" (4.00 / 1)
Your habit of spelling it "LaMont" is really annoying.

LOL (0.00 / 0)
Scarce, there's nothing funnier than when someone makes a spelling mistake while correcting someone's spelling mistake!

(Yes, I checked this about nine times before hitting "Post")

I do agree that seeing it as "LaMont" is annoying...it reminds me of a ketchup brand.
