UPDATE: WWE Has YouTube Take Down Videos Damaging To McMahon

by: tparty

Fri Oct 16, 2009 at 17:09:47 PM EDT

(Video below NSFW. See bottom for update.)

If there's one general rule for all political campaigns, it's to avoid mentions of the word "necrophilia" in association with your candidate.

Sadly, thanks largely to their candidate's highly problematic (and highly entertaining) YouTube trail, the campaign of Linda McMahon could not avoid such a fate.

Late this afternoon, the Connecticut Democratic Party released the above video of some of the WWE's finer moments, set to soothing tunes and the dulcet tones of their former CEO describing the "energetic" family "fun" of the WWE in a recent campaign ad.

Linda McMahon spokesman Ed Patru, former spokesman for Freedom's Watch, had this to say in defense of the WWE product earlier in the day:

"Every American understands the difference between scripted TV entertainment and real life betrayal of trust by Washington politicians," he said. "With 15 million Americans out of work and a jobless rate in Connecticut approaching 10%, people want a Senator who knows how to fix the economy and put people back to work. It's stunning that Chris Dodd's supporters are more concerned with PG TV programming than job creation."

Connecticut Democratic Party Communications Director Colleen Flanagan responded:

"Just because the show is "scripted" doesn't mean it's not vile, tasteless, violent, demeaning to women and fueled by steroids," said Connecticut Democratic Party Communications Director Colleen Flanagan. "What's stunning is that Linda McMahon and her staff are unable to explain or defend her involvement in a company which produces this kind of sexually explicit and violent programming, yet they still believe she'd be a fine U.S. Senator."

It will be interesting to see if the WWE - which as McMahon continues to remind us is a successful publicly traded company - will attempt to cover for their ex-CEO politically by having YouTube take down some of these embarrassing clips, some of which have been allowed to stay up for months with no copyright claim on their part.

Update: Yep, WWE has now had YouTube take down at least these three clips - all of which were viewable earlier in the day today - after they were linked to by the CT Dems in a press release.

They're quick (0.00 / 0)
I wonder how long it takes before they make some bogus claim on this CT-Dems video? And whether the cowering Connecticut media will even bother risk incurring the wrath of the WWE by reporting on this subject?

Why do this now? (4.00 / 1)
While nobody asked for my two cents, here it is:

Why can't we wait until the primary, or (I hope) after she wins the Republican nomination to exploit this stuff?

How come we gotta show our hands NOW, before the GOPers even got started with seriously bashing one another?  It could have been MUCH more valuable later on.

Sheesh, we're giving this stuff away; for basically no real gain.  Well, except for the pure fun of GOP-bashing, which while an amusing pass-time, serves no useful purpose in the long run.

My advice is to put stuff like this it in the bank.  Save it for later. The payoff then could be of real value.

We got our October surprise in October, just a year early! (Not that it was that much of a surprise.)

"I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country is impeccable and we should face up to it."

Nobody asked for mine either (0.00 / 0)
But IMO this stuff was hardly secret, and unlikely to fly under the radar for another year.

Fair enough (0.00 / 0)
But any help we give to the likes of Simmons won't benefit us in the long run.

And besides, it doesn't pay to over-estimate the intelligence of the right. There's probably a 50-50 chance they would have missed it, or at least seriously botched their handling of it.  Your story nailed it too good!

Saw this on TPM (0.00 / 0)
which also  had a heads-up about phone calls I've been getting from the NRA (unanswered as of yet - keeping that blood pressure down) - they're blanketing some states with calls about the UN and Hillary McEvil -

And just for laughs, ask the caller to state the correct version of the Second Amendment.

Violent Perversions Concerning Lieberman's Campaign Money?

According to ConnecticutBlog and MLN, this is the kindof people that Lieberman takes his campaign money from.

An analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan watchdog group, found that the Connecticut Democrat, who won re-election last month as an independent, received about $73,000 from a variety of industry sources over the past two years.

Among the donors were Linda McMahon, chief executive officer of Stamford-based WWE Entertainment. McMahon said in an e-mail that she gave money to Lieberman because "I make contributions to a variety of candidates whom I respect.

snip

"If you're going to portray yourself as a champion against sex and violence on TV and in video games, it certainly doesn't look like you're completely serious if one of your big contributors makes its money from sex and violence," said Massie Ritsch, spokesman for the Center for Responsive Politics.
...
Asked why he accepted their money, Lieberman first joked, "I really don't get anything [contributions] from that industry.""

Now if that doesn't beat all? Joe is in the middle of a fight against video game violence and he takes money (and denies it!) from the ultimate in violent TV producers:

The WWE.

If you think it couldn't get any worse here well, YES! it can. Not only do they feature violence BUT violent sexual content as well:(warning!)

.

That was taken from WWE's Raw. And if that doesn't expose the ultimate in hypocrisy than how's about a video game version of all of this violent content, "WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW", where they tout such features as:

  • Spanking mini-game - in bra and panties matchups, a female wrestler could enter a "spanking" mini-game. The meter mechanic from the chop battles are retained, but the player must perfectly time the button press three consecutive times to win. If the player does so, a cut scene of the two female wrestlers kissing is played.
  • Also added to the game was the Clean/Dirty system, which influenced each wrestlers tactics. Players can choose if the wrestler is clean, dirty or neutral. A clean or dirty wrestler has a meter that can be filled up by performing special clean/dirty actions or moves. Clean wrestlers with a full meter can enable a temporary rush of invincibility while dirty wrestlers can perform an illegal move.

More on an hidden feature in WWE similar to the Grand Theft Auto feature that sent Phony Joe into convulsions:

WWE Raw 2 Cheats

"Hint: Nude Characters
Either create a female character, or edit one of the existing ones and give them all pure black clothes (0,0,0 for all 3 options). Then have a match in any PPV arena and on the Titantron they will appear naked."

Violence, cheating, violence against women, sexual content... These games have it all, mirroring the WWE's television productions.

Lieberman falsely claims to carry the banner in the fight against violent videogames and violence on TV... He is really only a perverted spokesman for hypocrisy in action.

The video of the WWE "Spanking Match" featuring two women fighting to get a paddle so one can do a victory spanking of the loser at the end does not seem to load anymore.

Scantily clad women, violence, a little S&M. Not that I am against whatever anyone wants to do for fun... But this? In a video game obviously directed towards the viewing of kids?

WTF?

That video was shocking, offensive, and obscene! (4.00 / 2)
But I had to watch it about six times to be absolutely sure!

LOL!

I have not watched much wrestling . . . (0.00 / 0)
But the clip with wrestler and the woman in the coffin made me cry.  It is quite possibly the most offensive clip I have ever seen, and has made me quite literally sick to my stomach.

Keep this in mind... (0.00 / 0)
I will once again speak out as the designated wrestling fan here.  I love WWE, always have and always will, even though the shows aren't nearly as good as they used to be since they did put the PG rating on (keep in mind these clips are several years old).  I find this all very comparable to the Republicans attacking Al Franken for his Saturday Night Live sketches so I really think this is a touch unfair to stick this all on Linda McMahon when she has nothing to do with the creative side.  There are many more substantive issues to attack her on, believe me.

THAT BEING SAID...I cannot disagree with you there Kim.  That was a deplorable sketch and a real low point for the show which has been criticized by fans since about the first second it was aired. Can't defend anything about it.  I watched it as it aired and my jaw was on the floor.  Stupid sketch.  Stupid angle.  Stupid everything.  Just bad bad bad.  One of the lowest points in WWE history and there have been some doozies.

I am not one to be judgemental about what people watch (4.00 / 1)
or what turns people on - at all.  But that clip just horrified me.  Though McMahon was not in charge of the creative side, she, as CEO, is ultimately responsible for content.

[ Parent ]
Not disagreeing (0.00 / 0)
That clip is just brutal.  It's infamous amongst wrestling fans for being the nadir of what Vince McMahon dreams up.  I totally understand why it sickens you (though in context its SLIGHTLY better than it seems, not by much unfortunately).  The Katie Vick angle is not something anyone is proud of.

I just don't want wrestling fans condemned as being low class because some of us (well mostly me) are actually quite progressive people.  We just enjoy seeing two people beat each other with steel chairs now and then.

Of course ever since Linda got it in her mind that she was a politician we haven't even had any good matches.

[ Parent ]
Heh (0.00 / 0)
Progressives are people too!  I am not judging for the wrestling watching.  You can take my seat while I watch my preferred junk TV shows . . .
